The PASSION
With 36 years experience in the golf course industry Steve Marnoch is a long standing and well established golf course architect with a strong reputation and a broad and varied portfolio. Steve is excited about sharing with you his company ethos and the strengths that golfmarnoch, can bring to our industry.
Steve's passion for golf began early in life. Steve's father Peter, after playing football for Buckie Thistle and Elgin City, Scotland in 1950's, went on to become Head Greenkeeper at Garmouth and Kingston and then Coventry Hearsall, a first class golfer and winner of the British Golf Greenkeepers Championship at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club in the 1970's and Steve's inspiration. Steve started playing golf as a child and with his love of the game established; golf courses have always been in his blood.
Steve qualified as a golf course architect in 1992 becoming one of the only two people to gain the first recognised qualification in golf course architecture at that time. Qualifying initially as a landscape architect, upon advice from Fred Hawtree, Steve combines his training and practical experience to deliver the first class design of traditional courses with a proven flair for Scottish styling. Combine this with his 'layman's' love of the game and the result is that Steve understands the need for designing courses that meet the needs of both professional players and beginners alike.
The VISION
golfmarnoch is a company built very much on Steve's own personal aspirations, to achieve architectural excellence; to provide a professional and personal service; to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships; to provide a strong team of expert associates and consultants; and of course to build golf courses that are not only enjoyable to play but also sit beautifully into their environment.
An appreciation for the landscape and environment is an integral part of the work we carry out. Consequently, our design style is totally flexible and permits the site to play a large part in dictating the characteristics of the course and whilst we thrive on design creativity, we recognise that flair must always be balanced with practicality and budget constraints. Our expertise in these areas is clearly visible within our design solutions.
