Boleyn:Life and Death of a Queen 17th - 17th June 2017

Boleyn: The Death and Life of a Queen

Written by local theatre director and curator of Belper Arts festival, George Gunby, Boleyn charts the remarkable woman who lost her head to Henry.

Intelligent, feisty, opinionated and politically savvy. Henry VIII was besotted by Anne and yet, just three years after they married, he had her executed. The motives behind Henry’s actions fascinated George. Henry’s need for a son and heir became an obsession and his disappointment with Anne’s ability to provide one grew.

Did Henry plot Anne’s downfall? Did Cromwell hatch a plot – a scenario so wild and bizarre – because Anne had become an encumbrance to his ambition? Or was it all true; was Anne promiscuous and disloyal to Henry?

The play is as much about human behaviour, motivation and power. It’s about the lengths that people will go to maintain their position and influence.

A PLAY WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY GEORGE GUNBY
