Barlow Show
11th - 12th June 2011
Barlow Show has grown in size and stature since its humble beginnings in Ashover in 2003. Then there were just 52 classes; in 2009 we had 145 showing and working hunter classes, in 12 rings, 2 days of show jumping and 2 arenas of dressage competition.
In addition to this we run a fun dog show and a Retired Greyhound Trust Show on Sunday.
The Barlow show now runs very smoothly over two days, with the majority of the qualifying classes running on Saturday and the unaffiliated classes on Sunday.
Now recognised as one of the premier horse shows in the area we are looking at building on the successes achieved in previous years. We are very proud to offer Royal International Horse show qualifiers for BSPA Coloured horses and ponies and BSPS Lead Rein and First Ridden ponies. These classes draw in top producers, ponies an jockeys form all over the country.
We have also developed our own series of mini pony classes for very young riders who want to have a go at showing, and nervous / novice adults to have a go at riding in the ring. Between these two extremes we offer a range of affiliated and unaffiliated classes for all ages and categories of horse, pony and rider. Cobs, hunters, workers, coloured, side saddle, veteran, M&M -the entire range. With these classes you may qualify for the various societies championships, some of which you need to be members of before the show, if you want to qualify, whilst others like the Ponies UK, give you 7 days in which to register once you have qualified. However with the exception of the Royal International Classes, (which are clearly marked in the schedule), you do not need to be a member of and club or society in order to compete at this show.
We are very proud to welcome our valued main sponsors year after year. Thomas Irvings Country Store (1998) Ltd have supported show since the very beginning, and we are indebted to them for their support. Diane Boyle and her team support the show as headline sponsors and we are very pleased to have them onboard.
Nick & Liz Denniff from Lydgate Hill Fencing have sponsored the show through fencing every ring for the past 6 years. Until they arrive with their tractor, post knocker and trailer full of posts, the showground is bare. Once the posts are in and the rings roped off, everything starts to take shape. We couldn’t run the show without their support and commitment year after year. A huge thank you to Nick, Liz, Will & Hannah.
I am keen that the competitors feel involved with the show, and I always try to act on any suggestions put to me regarding the schedule, classes or showground. If you’d like to suggest classes, or make constructive comments about how I can improve the show, please email me on charlotteoutram@tiscali.co.uk.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Barlow Show at Bakewell in June 2011.
